Kamloops Perinatal Access & Care
Multidisciplinary care for families of the Thompson Region
Kamloops Perinatal Access & Care
With the closure of the Thompson Region Family Obstetrics Group in early 2026, solutions were needed to ensure ongoing access to maternity care and delivery services in the Kamloops region. Interior Health Authority, Divisions of Family Practice, STEPS, and enthusiastic care providers have been working together to develop a multidisciplinary service to provide this care.
The initial focus was on stabilizing delivery services at Royal Inland Hospital through Registered Midwives and Family Physicians being on-call 24/7 to attend patients presenting to Labour & Delivery for routine and moderate risk care.
Moving forward, the teams are working to establish an open-access clinic that will be able to serve any person in the region requiring antenatal care. The focus will be on third trimester care to start, with expansion through earlier pregnancy as capacity builds.
The provider team is multidisciplinary, consisting of Registered Midwives, Family Physicians, Registered Nurses, and consultative access to Obstetrician-Gynecologists. Patients receive access to a broad scope of expertise through this model.
